Midcontinent Communications Named Fastest ISP in Nation

MidcoNet Xstream Wideband tops PCMag’s annual list; bumps Verizon FiOS

PCMag Fastest ISP 2014September 11, 2014 - Sioux Falls, SD: PCMag.com has named Midcontinent Communications the fastest Internet Service Provider in the nation, bumping Verizon FiOS out of the top slot for the first time since the site began the list in 2010. The site listed Midcontinent’s “major bump in speed” and “ability to consistently deliver high speeds” as reasons for its #1 spot.

PCMag.com determines results through a partnership with Ookla’s speedtest.net, pulling results from connection speed tests from the past 11 months. The tests collect download and upload speeds measured in Megabitsper second (Mbps). Those results are then pooled to calculate an index score for one-to-one comparisons among ISPs. PCMag.com called Midcontinent’s index score of 46.8 “unparalleled,” beating out such telecommunications giants as Comcast and Cox.

“It’s a shame the company’s MidcoNet Xstream® Wideband service is limited to just a few states in the north central area of the country . . . but it’s likely that the company’s size keeps it nimble enough to provide such outstanding service for its customers.” Griffith, Eric. The Fastest ISPs of 2014. PCMag.com. September 4, 2014*.

“We are proud to have our efforts to provide the best Internet service possible to our region recognized by PCMag.com,” says Pat McAdaragh, President and CEO of Midcontinent Communications. “Midcontinent has long sought to give our customers the best value for the best service, and I am thrilled to be recognized by an industry leader such as PCMag.com.”

Midcontinent also kept its spots as the fastest ISP in the north central region of the United States for the third consecutive year. “[Midcontinent] may never be beat if it continues to improve service the way it has been doing year to year.” Griffith, Eric. The Fastest ISPs of 2014. PCMag.com. September 4, 2014.

MidcoNet Xstream Wideband is available throughout North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, and portions of Wisconsin with speeds of up to 200 Mbps downloads and the ability to handle up to 100 connected devices.
