Midco Foundation Awards 65 Grants

November 1, 2018 – Sioux Falls, SD: As part of an ongoing commitment to giving back to the communities it serves, Midco® has awarded 65 nonprofits, schools and government organizations with Midco Foundation grants.

The organizations, which span 39 communities in Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, learned about their grant awards in late October. In total, the Midco Foundation awarded $105,000 in grant money this fall.

“There are so many worthy causes and initiatives, as evidenced by the large number of applications we received,” said Wynne Haakenstad, Director of Programming for Midco and Chairperson of the Midco Foundation. “It is a difficult and humbling task for the Foundation board, comprised of Midco team members, to review and make impactful grant decisions. We are pleased to be able to support 65 such organizations with grants to further their missions in our communities.”

The Foundation board reviews and approves funding requests to charitable entities twice a year. Since 1988, the Foundation has awarded more than $3.9 million to causes within its service area. Some of this year’s grantees include:

  • Lawrence Police Blue Santa: $2,000 to purchase gifts and holiday meals for families in need
  • uCodeGirl: $2,500 to implement its STEM mentorship camp
  • REACH Literacy: $2,500 to promote an everyday English program aimed at the Hispanic workforce

The Midco Foundation encourages nonprofit organizations in the communities it serves to apply for future grants for special projects, facilities improvements, equipment and programs.
