Midco Celebrates Janesville Fiber Network Groundbreaking

April 20, 2026 – Janesville, MN: Midco officially marked the start of construction on a new fiber network in Janesville last week with a groundbreaking ceremony that celebrated the future of connectivity in the community.

Midco’s fiber network will deliver multi-gig internet speeds designed to connect homes, businesses, education, healthcare and economic development throughout Janesville.

“This groundbreaking marks the beginning of a special partnership between Midco and the people of Janesville,” said Midco President and Chief Operating Officer Ben Dold. “Reliable, high-speed fiber helps local businesses grow, keeps residents connected to what matters most and ensures Janesville is positioned to thrive for decades to come.”

Midco’s $1.5 million investment will connect more than 1,250 homes and businesses using 100,000 feet (or 19 miles) of fiber. City leaders joined Midco at the ceremony and emphasized the impact the investment will have on residents and the local economy.

“It is a joy to celebrate the work and partnership that Midco is bringing to the City of Janesville as it overlays the city with broadband fiber,” said Waseca County Commissioner DeAnne Malterer. “I couldn't be more excited for the benefit this will bring to our residents, including me! As a county commissioner, and a strong advocate of broadband service expansion in our county, every new foot of fiber is an opportunity to grow our economy and better serve our residents. We look forward to the completion of this project and welcome additional partnership and investment with Midco in other parts of Waseca County.”

Highlighting Midco’s force for good ethos and commitment to community partnership, the company provided the Janesville Community Food Shelf a $2,500 grant at the event.

“I would like to thank Midco for the grant supporting the Janesville Community Food Shelf,” said Janesville Community Food Shelf Director Kay Gottschalk. “This will help us provide more fresh produce and proteins to our clients.”

Construction of the fiber network will continue in phases. Residents can visit Midco.com/Janesville to see a live map showing construction progress, projected launch dates and service availability. Once complete, customers will have access to Midco’s full suite of fiber-powered internet services, including internet, MidcoTV, landline phone and Midco Mobile.
