Need troubleshooting help? See quick tips and help below, or find your remote’s user guide for more in-depth troubleshooting.

Common Remote Functions

Although remote models may look different, and some buttons may be in different locations, most of the buttons on your remote have the same functions as other remotes.

  • The Power or PWR button turns your device on or off.
  • The System On/Off button is designed to power on or power off your entire system at once, including your TV, sound bar and other devices.
  • The device buttons – TV, CBL, DVD, AUD and AUX – tell your remote which device you want to control after you program your remote to that device. For example:
    • To turn on your TV, press the TV button and then the Power button.
    • To edit your DVR list of recorded shows, press the CBL button to control your cable box, and then the List button.2
  • The Guide button brings up your interactive, on-screen guide (iGuide), displaying the next 90 minutes of programming for a block of channels. Your current show will move to the upper-right corner of your screen while browsing your guide.3
  • Use the Menu button to bring up the quick menu, giving you access to the most commonly used guide menu items. Press it twice to open the main menu, giving you full access to all menu items.
  • Press the Info button to see the program information and rating for the show you’re watching or the show you have highlighted in the TV listings grid. You’ll also see options to set up a recording2, create a reminder, set a favorite channel or establish parental locks.
  • Use the Exit button to exit the guide and return to live TV.
  • Make selections throughout the guide with the OK/SEL button. If you press the button while watching live TV, it will bring up the guide flip bar, so you can channel surf while watching your current show.
  • The arrow buttons around the OK/SEL button let you navigate the guide and its menus.
  • Use the channel up and channel down buttons to move up or down a channel while watching live TV.
  • The volume up and volume down buttons and the mute button control the volume on your TV or sound bar (if programmed).
  • Press the page up or page down buttons to move through menus and guides one whole page at a time.
    • On a DVR recording or an ON Demand rental, page up will skip ahead 5 minutes, and page down will skip back five minutes (if skipping is allowed for that program).2
  • Use the Last button to go back one screen or menu, or to change back to the previous channel you were watching.
  • Press the FAV button to access or set up your favorite lists.
  • To access your DVR’s recordings, press the List button.2
  • Use the Replay button to skip back 15 seconds of live TV or of a recording (if skipping is allowed for that program).1
  • Press the Live or Live TV button (depending on your remote) to catch up to live TV after pausing or rewinding.
  • Use the number pad to enter channel numbers or parental control codes.
  • The Swap button changes from one tuner on your DVR to another. If you’re recording two different shows at once, the Swap button allows you to toggle between those shows and not interrupt your recordings.2
  • Press the Light button at the bottom of your remote to turn on the remote’s backlight to help you see your buttons in dim light. The backlight will turn off after 10 seconds, or you can press the Light button again to turn the light off sooner.
