Midco Partners with FCC to Bridge Digital Divide in Sherburne County

Sherburne County, MN – In partnership with the Federal Communications Commission’s Rural Digital Opportunity Fund (RDOF), Midco continues to bridge the digital divide across Minnesota. Midco was recently awarded $893,000 in the RDOF auction to build out 1,683 homes, farms and businesses in Sherburne County.

“Most of these homes and businesses will have Midco’s fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) services. Our current FTTP services offer some of the fastest speeds in America at 5 Gbps symmetrical for both uploads and downloads,” said Government Relations Manager Melissa Wolf.

Midco has been expanding its network aggressively in Sherburne County over the past few years, reaching hundreds of new homes in 2020 alone. This partnership with the FCC will compliment and accelerate that ongoing work.

Construction in Big Lake Township and Palmer Township will begin this year and some locations covered by the RDOF award will begin receiving broadband by the end of the year.

Midco will serve Sherburne County’s new service areas with fiber broadband services capable of delivering 5 Gbps of download and upload speeds. The regional communications company is excited to continue growing its network to serve 5,000 homes and businesses in the County in the coming years.

High-speed internet access is critical to economic opportunity, job creation, education and civic engagement. RDOF will direct up to $20.4 billion to expand broadband in unserved rural areas.
