Midco has been awarded the prestigious Cablefax Top Ops Multiple System Operator (MSO) of the Year 2024. This accolade celebrates Midco’s unwavering commitment to delivering exceptional broadband services and its forward-thinking approach to network advancement.  

Fiber Forward: A Testament to Visionary Leadership 

Midco’s visionary Fiber Forward initiative, launched in 2021 with a $500 million investment, has been instrumental in introducing multi-gig symmetrical speeds across its markets. The initiative underscores Midco’s proactive strategy to meet and exceed evolving consumer expectations. “We’re in our fourth year of completing our plant extensions in new markets with fiber to the premises,” said Midco CEO Pat McAdaragh. By the end of 2028, Midco anticipates that 25% of its passings will be fiber to the premises, marking a significant milestone in the company’s history. 

In May, Midco introduced “Beyond Gig” plans offering 2 Gbps download speeds and 400 Mbps or 350 Mbps upload speeds, anticipating customer needs well into the future. 

A Legacy of Pioneering and Innovation 

Midco’s roots can be traced back to 1931 as a movie theater company, where it pioneered drive-in movies in the Upper Midwest. In 1969, Pierre, SD, became one of the first state capitals in the U.S. to have cable TV, thanks to Midco’s innovative spirit. Midco went on to become among the first in South Dakota to offer quality, low-cost long-distance service. This spirit of innovation continues to drive Midco’s operations and services, ensuring that it remains at the forefront of the industry.
