TiVo Remotes
Your TiVo® DVR comes with a remote to help you control to your TiVo viewing experience.
- Our most recent remotes include voice functionality.
- You may have an older TiVo remote, which will still work with your DVR.
- Lose your remote, but have your phone in hand? If you have the TiVo® app, you can use your app to control your DVR. (Note that voice functionality isn’t available through the app.)
TiVo Voice Remote
Press the blue microphone button on the TiVo® voice remote, and speak naturally into the remote. You can ask your TiVo DVR to change the channel, launch an app or search for a movie – it’s up to you.1
Important Notes
- Currently, voice functionality is only available with the newer TiVo® Experience. If you have the classic TiVo Experience, the voice remote will still work on your DVR, but without voice control.
- Older TiVo remotes will work with the newer TiVo Experience, but you won’t have voice control functionality. If your current remote does not have a Back button, use the Zoom button to go back on any screen.
- You can upgrade your remote for a one-time $15 charge. Contact us to get the new remote.
See what TiVo experience you have
- The TiVo button takes you to the Home screen.
- TV Pwr turns your TV on or off (if programmed).
- Use the Input button to select the input for your TV (if programmed).
- Press Back to go back to the previous screen.
- Use the arrow buttons to navigate the TiVo menus. In live TV:
- Press the up button for the one-line guide.
- Press the down button to see personalized show suggestions.
- Press the left button for your favorite channels.
- Press the right button to see what’s playing on other tuners.
- The volume and mute buttons control the volume on your TV (if programmed).
- Press and hold the voice (microphone) button to issue voice commands.
- The replay button repeats the last eight seconds of a show.
- Press and hold the button to jump to the beginning of a show.
- Use the thumbs up and thumbs down buttons to rate shows to influence what shows get recorded in your TiVo suggestions.
- The A, B, C and D buttons set options, as well as sort and filter views. Look for the on-screen tips for when to select these buttons.
- The Clear button dismisses items appearing over live TV. It also deletes titles from My Shows and the To Do List.
- The Live TV button takes you to live TV and lets you cycle through tuners. (Multiple tuners allow you to record multiple shows at one time.)
- The Info button shows the info banner while watching a show. Press Info again to make the info card disappear.
- You can also use this to turn closed captions on or off. Press the Info button, and then select the Closed Caption icon.
- Use the OK button to choose menu items or select a show from the guide.
- Press Exit to close certain apps.
- Use the channel up and channel down buttons to change the channel or move quickly through lists and the guide.
- The Guide button takes you to the on-screen program guide.
- Press Record to record the show you’re watching or to set up a recording for a show selected in the guide.
- While watching shows, use these buttons to control playback.
- Press the rewind and fast forward buttons up to three times to adjust the speed.
- In the TiVo menus, use the rewind and fast forward buttons to move quickly through strips.
- Press Play and then OK to start or stop QuickMode®.
- The Advance button moves forward in 30-second increments.
- Press the button once to jump to the next tick mark while fast-forwarding or rewinding.
- Press and hold the button to jump to the end of the show.
- The ON Demand button takes you directly to the Midco ON Demand screen.
- Press the Netflix button to launch the Netflix app.
- The Enter (Last) button returns you to the last channel you were watching.

Search by Title, Actor or Keyword
- "Find The Good Place."
- "Show me action movies with Scarlett Johansson."
Add to Your Search Command to Get More Specific
- After the command, "Show me romantic movies," you could add, "From the 90s with Tom Hanks."
Watch a Show
- "Play the latest episode of Outlander."
- “Watch the next episode of The Daily Show.”
- "Play season two, episode three of This is Us."
- "Watch Stranger Things on Netflix."
- "Watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine on live TV."
Launch an App
- "Launch Netflix."
- "Launch YouTube."
Change Channels
- "Go to The History Channel."
- "Change to channel 622."
Voice functionality is only available with the newer TiVo Experience. See what TiVo Experience you have.
If you have the classic TiVo Experience, the voice remote will still work on your DVR, but without voice control – and you don’t need to pair it. Simply point the remote at your TiVo DVR or TiVo Mini. If you have the newer TiVo Experience, you need to pair your remote with your DVR for voice functionality to work.
Auto Pair Your TiVo Remote
Within three feet of your TiVo DVR or TiVo Mini, press any button on your remote.
- The red indicator light on your remote will flash amber for 30 seconds. Then, your remote should automatically pair with your device.
- If the activity light above the TiVo button continues to flash red when you press a button, it means automatic pairing wasn’t successful.
Manually Pair Your TiVo Remote
- Press the TiVo button on your remote to go to the Home screen. Press the left arrow button to go to the Menu icon.
- Select Settings and then Remote, CableCARD & Devices.
- Choose Remote Control Setup. Select Remote Control Pairing, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Newer TiVo Experience
- Press the TiVo button on your remote to go to the Home screen.
- Press the left arrow button to go to the Menu icon.
- Select Settings, and then Remote, CableCARD & Devices.
- Choose Remote Control Setup.
- Select from the available options, and follow the on-screen instructions to program your remote.
Classic TiVo Experience
- Press the TiVo button on your remote to go to the Home screen. Go to Settings & Messages.
- Select Settings and then Remote, CableCARD & Devices.
- Choose Remote Control Setup.
- Select from the available options, and follow the on-screen instructions to program your remote.
Use your TiVo remote to navigate your TiVo Experience. Go to your recorded shows, open a connected application, search the guide and more.
- If you have the newer TiVo Experience, but a classic TiVo remote, your remote will still work with your device – though without voice control functionality. See what TiVo Experience you have.

QuickMode™ lets you speed through a show 30% faster – without missing what people are saying. QuickMode is available while you’re watching a recorded show, or if you are behind live TV (such as if you rewound a show that’s airing live).
- While watching a show, press the Play button on your remote. This will bring up the status bar.
- Press OK to start QuickMode.
- Press OK again to resume watching at normal speed.
