From Food Service to Field Tech
- Date: 2/15/23
As a self-described busybody, Kayleigh Fletcher wasn’t sure where her career path would lead. She craved variety in her day-to-day duties and would rather work with her hands – beyond typing on a keyboard. Turns out a field tech position at Midco was just what she was looking for.
“I love that every day is a little different,” said Kayleigh. “There’s a balance between physical work, problem solving and customer interaction.”
Before applying at Midco, Kayleigh spent time in the food service industry and doing various other jobs in the customer service sphere. Even though her mother worked at Midco, she had never really considered it as an option.
“The company sounded appealing, but I never seemed to have luck with desk jobs in the past,” said Kayleigh. Luckily for her, there is a whole department within Midco that would fit the bill.
Kayleigh Fletcher, Midco Field Technician I, has been with Midco since February 2022.
Finding a job that fits.
Field technicians work to install services and support customers across Midco’s five-state footprint. Out and about in every community Midco serves, field techs, like Kayleigh, get to bring the latest available technology to customers.
“I always knew Midco as a popular and reliable service provider in the area, but I really never gave much thought to how the internet works or how TV is provided,” explained Kayleigh. “The amount of new information I took in during the first few weeks was immense, and I thought, ‘Whoa, who knew there was so much behind data service!’ But the training process and leaders were so great with answering my questions and being very supportive that I knew this was something I would grow to truly enjoy.”
Beyond the work, Kayleigh found comfort in the team atmosphere at Midco – something she hadn’t experienced at other organizations.
“Midco and its leaders look at me with a value that no company has before,” stated Kayleigh.
Give it a try.
It can be daunting entering a whole new field of work, but Kayleigh’s experience shows that sometimes trying something new has its own rewards.
“I would encourage those who are looking for a challenging but super rewarding role to consider a tech position,” stated Kayleigh. “There's a ton of options for growth and movement within the company that I feel I could be here until I retire. I know that when I do my job right and help customers resolve issues, that I'm making people happy while enjoying the way I provide for my family.”
