Want to set up your modem and activate your Midco internet service? You’re at the right place.

Order Your Modem

You don’t have to wait for an appointment, and you don’t have to be a techie. In some cases, we’re able to offer a self-install option for your Midco modem.

  • If you’re a new customer or someone adding a modem to current service, you can order a mailed, self-install kit.
  • If you’re a customer moving services to a new address, just bring all current Midco equipment (cable boxes, modems, power cords and remotes) to your new location.

Note: If you have an old Midco modem on your account, it will remain active for 14 days. If you leased it from us, please return it by mailing back to Midco using the box you received for your new modem. A prepaid return label has been included.

These steps cover how to install a specific wired modem model; however, the steps are similar for other wired modems from Midco.

Required to Start:

  • Modem
  • Power cord
  • Coax cable
  • Ethernet cable
  • Your own computer or device to connect to the internet

Optional to Start (if adding your own router):

  • Your retail router
  • A second Ethernet cable
  • Your router’s wireless network name (SSID) and network key/password (see your router’s user manual)

Plug In Your Modem
  1. Find the best location for your modem. It’s best to place it in a central spot in your home, off the floor and near an active cable outlet.
    • Some cable outlets in your home may not be active. If the outlet you want to use is inactive, see how to activate it.)
  2. Connect the coax cable from the wall outlet to the connection on your modem.
  3. Plug your modem into a power outlet.
  4. Connect the Ethernet cable from your modem’s Ethernet connection to your device’s Ethernet connection.

Make sure all connections are finger tight.

Check Modem Connection

Wait up to 15 minutes for the online, upstream, downstream and power lights to stop flashing and remain solid.

Online light isn't on or still flashing after 15 minutes?

Here are a couple of quick things to check:

  1. Make sure you’re using the coax cable we shipped to you and that the connections are finger tight.
  2. Confirm that the power light on your modem is on. If not, try a different power outlet. If you’ve tried multiple power outlets and it still doesn’t turn on, contact Midco support.
  3. If the modem doesn’t light up, or if the light is solid but it’s still not connecting, reboot the modem. Unplug it from power, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.
Modem Only
  1. Plug an Ethernet cable into the first or only port on the modem and into your device’s Ethernet connection.
  2. Open your web browser and visit a public website such as Midco.com to test your connection. If everything works, you’re all set with internet!

If you are unable to reach the internet, contact Midco support.

Modem & Optional Wireless Router

Some customers may use an optional third-party router with their Midco wired modem.

  1. Plug an Ethernet cable into the first or only port on the modem and also into your router, which connects your modem and router.
  2. Plug a second Ethernet cable from the router to your device’s Ethernet connection or connect your device to the router’s Wi-Fi.
    • Note: Midco provides one Ethernet cable. You’ll need another of your own.
  3. Follow your router’s user guide, and contact the manufacturer if you have questions.
  4. Open your web browser, and visit a public website such as Midco.com to test your connection. If everything works, you’re all set with internet!

If you are unable to reach the internet, contact Midco support. If you have router issues, contact the router manufacturer.

Troubleshooting: What are the lights on the front of your modem showing?

Online light does not turn on.

  1. Try a different cable wall outlet.
    • Not all cable outlets are active. The easiest thing to do is move your modem to another location and plug the coax into a different outlet.
  2. Wait 10 minutes to see if it connects. When the lights are solid, go to the Connect Your Devices instructions above.

If you’ve tried multiple outlets and still can’t connect, contact our support team.

Lights are blinking in unison.

  1. Wait for your modem to update. Like all hardware, your modem sometimes needs an update (even if it’s new). This can take up to 60 minutes, so feel free to check back in a bit. When the update is done, the lights will be solid.
    • If the online light is still blinking after 60 minutes, reboot your modem. Unplug it from power, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. Then, give it up to 60 minutes for a complete reboot and update.
    • When the lights are solid, go to the Connect Your Devices instructions above.
  2. If you’re still having issues, perform a factory reset. If you’ve tried everything else and the online light is still blinking, then it’s time to try a factory reset.
    • With your modem still powered on, press and hold the Reset button – found on the back of the modem – for 10 seconds. Lights will begin to flash to show they’re restarting the connection process. Once your lights are solid, go to the Connect Your Devices instructions above.

  2. Connect the coax cable from the wall outlet to the connection on your modem.
  3. Plug your modem into a power outlet.
  4. Make sure all connections are finger tight.

Wait for the Light

Set Up Your Wi-Fi Network

On the back of your modem, find these settings for your own equipment.

  • Default Wi-Fi network (This is your network name.)
  • Default key (This is your password.)

Note: This example is not your modem’s default network name, password or QR code.

Alternatively, use your mobile phone’s camera to scan the QR code on the back of the modem to get your default network details. (Not all mobile devices support QR codes.)

Connect Your Devices
  1. With one device (such a smartphone), connect to the default network using your device’s Wi-Fi settings. This will launch Easy Connect to guide you through setting up your personal Wi-Fi network.
    • (If Easy Connect doesn’t launch, enter 192.168.0.1 into your browser.)
  2. Once you’ve arrived at Easy Connect, choose LET’S GO, and follow the onscreen steps.
  3. Enter your new Wi-Fi network name and password. Make sure it’s memorable and personal to you, but difficult for others to guess. Choose Confirm Setup.
  4. Review the details on the next screen and edit if needed.
  5. Write down your new Wi-Fi name and password, so you have it for other devices.
  6. Choose Complete My Setup.
    • Important: When you save your new Wi-Fi network details, the modem will automatically disconnect from the default network.
  7. Go to your device’s Wi-Fi settings. Follow the steps to connect to Wi-Fi. (Make sure you're not using your mobile data.) Open a website to make sure it loads. Then, get more devices on Wi-Fi.

    Adding devices to Wi-Fi 

    Tip: For the first device you connect with Easy Connect, use the modem’s default network and key. After setting up your new custom and secure network with Easy Connect, use the new Wi-Fi name and password for additional devices.
Troubleshooting: What are the lights on the front of your modem showing?

Down arrow is blinking, and up arrow isn’t lit.

  1. Try a different cable outlet.
    • Not all cable outlets are active. The easiest thing to do is move your modem to another location and plug the coax into a different outlet.
  2. Wait 10 minutes to see if it connects. If the lights turn solid blue, go to the Set Up Your Wi-Fi steps above.

If you’ve tried multiple outlets and still can’t connect, contact our support team.

Both the arrow lights are blinking in unison.

  1. Wait for your modem to update. Like all hardware, your modem sometimes needs an update (even if it’s new). This can take up to 60 minutes, so feel free to check back in a bit. When the update is done, both lights will show solid blue.
    • If the two lights are still blinking after 60 minutes, reboot your modem. Unplug it from power, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. Then, give it up to 60 minutes for a complete reboot and update.
    • When the lights show solid blue, it’s complete and time for you to go to the Set Up Your Wi-Fi Network steps above.
  2. If you’re still having issues, perform a factory reset. If you’ve tried everything else and those two lights are still blinking, then it’s time to try a factory reset.
    • With your modem still powered on, press and hold the Reset button – found on the back of the modem – for 10 seconds. (You need a pen or paper clip to push it.) Once lights are solid blue, go to the Set Up Your Wi-Fi Network steps above.

Wait up to 15 minutes for the Online light to go from blue to steady green.

Online light isn’t on or still flashing after 15 minutes?

Here are a couple of quick things to check:

  1. Make sure you’re using the coax cable we shipped to you and that the connections are finger tight.
  2. When you first plug into power, the Online light should appear blue before it changes to steady green. If it didn’t appear blue initially, try a different power outlet. 

  3. If the Online light doesn’t light up, or if the light is solid but it’s still not connecting, reboot the modem. Unplug it from power, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in.
Take Note of Your Wi-Fi Network

On the bottom of your modem, find these settings for your own equipment.

  • Default Wi-Fi network (This is your network name.)
    • Note: There are two networks – one for a 2.4GHz signal and one for a 5GHz signal. You need both since the ARRIS modem broadcasts two Wi-Fi signals. 
  • Preshared key (This is your default wireless password.)

Note: This example is not your modem’s default network name or preshared key.

Connect Your Devices
  1. With one device (such a smartphone), connect to the default network using your device’s Wi-Fi settings. (Make sure you're not using your mobile data.)

  2. Open a website to make sure it loads. If it does, you’re successfully connected.

    Want to customize your Wi-Fi network? It's optional, but best to do it before connecting more devices. Follow these steps if you’d like to customize. Otherwise, connect additional devices using the modem’s default network.

  3. On the device that’s already connected to the ARRIS modem’s default network, go to the web browser and enter 192.168.0.1. Select Enter or Return.
  4. On the ARRIS login page, enter the following details, and then choose Login.
    • Username: admin
    • Password: password
  5. Go to connection, followed by Wi-Fi and then HomeWi-Fi Network. Select Edit.
  6. For 2.4G and 5G, enter your new Wi-Fi network name and password, but add 5G to the end of that network name. Make sure it’s memorable and personal to you, but difficult for others to guess.
    • Write down your new Wi-Fi network name and password so you have it for other devices.
  7. Save your changes. Your modem will automatically disconnect from the previous Wi-Fi network.
  8. Connect your first device to your new Wi-Fi network. (Make sure you're not using your mobile data.) Open a website to make sure it successfully loads.
  9. To get more devices online:
    • For Wi-Fi devices: Go to your device’s Wi-Fi settings and connect to the new, customized Wi-Fi name and password you created.
    • For wired devices: Connect gaming systems or desktop computers directly to your modem using the Ethernet cord.
Troubleshooting: What are the lights on the front of your modem showing?

    1. If the two lights are still blinking after 60 minutes, reboot your modem. Unplug it from power, wait 30 seconds and plug it back in. Then, give it up to 60 minutes for a complete reboot and update.
    2. When the lights show solid green, it’s complete and time for you to go to the steps above to Take Note of Your Wi-Fi Network and Connect Your Devices.
  2. If you’re still having issues, perform a factory reset. If you’ve tried everything else and those two lights are still blinking, then it’s time to try a factory reset.

Pick a Good Location

Where you place your modem makes can impact how your internet performs. Make sure you choose a location with good air circulation, where it won’t get hot. Keep your modem in a high, central location – and away from other wireless devices.

Plug In Your Modem 

Wired, Ethernet Connection

  1. Connect the coax cable from your cable wall outlet to the cable (RF In) connection on your modem. Make sure the connection is finger tight.
  2. Plug the power cord into your modem and then into an electrical outlet.
  3. Connect the Ethernet cable from your modem’s Ethernet connection to your non-Wi-Fi computer, gaming device or other system.

Wireless Devices

  1. Connect the coax cable from your cable wall outlet to the cable (RF In) connection on your modem. Make sure the connection is finger tight.
  2. Plug the power cord into your modem and then into an electrical outlet.

Not all outlets may be active in your home. If the outlet you want to use is inactive, see how to activate it.

Check Modem Connection 
  1. Wait up to 15 minutes for the modem to connect to the Midco network. When it’s connected, the following lights on the front of the modem to stop flashing and remain steadily lit:
    • Power
    • DS (downstream/receive)
    • US (upstream/send)
    • Online
  2. Once the lights are solid, open your web browser and visit a public website such as Midco.com to test your connection.
    • If you are unable to reach the internet, contact us for assistance.

If the modem doesn’t light up or connect to the internet:

  1. Unplug the modem power cord from the back of the modem and the electrical outlet. If applicable, unplug the router power cord as well.
  2. Wait 15 seconds, and then plug the modem power cord back into the electrical outlet. Wait for the Power, DS, US and Online lights on the front of the modem to stop flashing and remain lit. If applicable, plug the router power cord into the electrical outlet.
  3. Restart your device.
Connect Devices to Wi-Fi

Setting up Wi-Fi for your mobile device or computer is easy. Follow our instructions for multiple device types and operating systems.

Installation Troubleshooting

If you are self-installing your modem and are having trouble:

  • Check if the modem is controlled by a light switch. 
  • Try different outlets to see if the one you're using is inactive. If you find the modem works when connected to a different outlet, you can activate the outlet you want to use

 

Did you buy your own modem?
  1. Check our approved modems list to make sure you have one compatible with our network.
  2. Call us to activate your modem. Have the modem modem number, serial number and mac address ready (normally found on the bottom or back of your modem).
