66 Organizations Awarded Midco Foundation Grants

May 2, 2018 – Sioux Falls, SD: Committed to giving back to the communities it serves, Midco has awarded 66 nonprofits, schools and government organizations with a Midco Foundation grant. The organizations, which span 34 communities in Kansas, Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota, learned about their grant awards in late April. In total, the Midco Foundation awarded more than $97,000 in grant money this spring.

"It’s incredibly humbling to review the many grant applications we receive, and it’s so inspiring to learn about all of the incredible work that goes on in the communities we serve," said Wynne Haakenstad, Director of Programming for Midco and Chairperson of the Midco Foundation. "This spring, the Midco Foundation was proud to award 66 organizations with grants. These amazing organizations make our communities better, and we’re honored to help them achieve their missions.”

The Foundation board reviews and approves funding requests to charitable entities twice a year. Since 1988, the Foundation has awarded more than $3.8 million to causes within its service area. Some of this year’s grantees include:

  • The Lawrence Community Shelter: $7,000 to purchase a new commercial oven to cook meals for homeless adults and children
  • Grand Forks Public Library: $2,500 to expand the robotics program to include a First Lego League Jr. team
  • Black Hills Works, Inc.: $3,000 to create a new “Adopt A Home” program for adults living with disabilities

The Midco Foundation encourages nonprofit organizations in the communities it serves to apply for future grants for special projects, facilities improvements, equipment and programs.
