Network Security Enhancements: Blocking Certain Services and Ports
At Midco, we are committed to providing a safe connection for all our users. In order to strengthen our network and our cybersecurity, we block certain services and ports. This preventive measure protects customers from the vulnerabilities that cybercriminals actively exploit.
Blocked Servers and Ports
- Microsoft SQL Server traffic
- Port 25 (SMTP): Often exploited for malicious email spam and unauthorized relay attacks.
- Port 445 (NetBIOS/SMB): Frequently targeted for ransomware attacks and unauthorized remote access.
- Port 1900 (UPnP): Can be leveraged for amplification attacks in large-scale cyber threats.
- Port 1433 & 1434 (SQL Server): Commonly used for database communication but can be vulnerable to unauthorized access.
- Port 520 (Router Information Protocol (RIP)): Used for routing communications but susceptible to exploitation in network attacks.
- Port 593 (Microsoft RPC): Can be leveraged in unauthorized remote procedure calls and targeted by malicious activities.
