Midcontinent Foundation Awards More Than $100,000 in Grants to Groups in 35 Communities

Sioux Falls, SD: A total of 72 nonprofit, school and government organizations have been awarded grants made available through the Midcontinent Foundation. The Foundation board is distributing $100,059 in grants this fall to organizations in nine South Dakota communities, 18 North Dakota communities and seven Minnesota communities.

As the charitable arm of the Midcontinent family of companies, the Foundation Board reviews grant applications and approves funding assistance to charitable entities twice each year. Since 1987, the Foundation has contributed more than $3.6 million to worthwhile causes.

This year, funding will buy boots and breathing equipment for fire and rescue departments in Hankinson, West Fargo, Rapid City and Chisago. Fire and police departments in Dickinson and Ortonville will get new radios. The Family Health Center in Fargo will purchase dental equipment, and Kids Against Hunger in Rapid City use its grant for processing equipment. A complete list of benefiting organizations can be found below.

“The Foundation Board is made up of Midcontinent employees, and they see our mission of giving back to the communities we serve very seriously,” said Tom Simmons, Senior Vice President of Public Policy at Midcontinent Communications and Chairman of the Board for the Midcontinent Foundation. “We consider it our privilege to support organizations across our region that do so much for so many people.”

Charitable organizations are encouraged to apply for spring 2016 grants by reviewing the requirements, criteria and application at Midco.com/Foundation. The Foundation is dedicated to providing funds that support special projects, facilities improvements, equipment and programs (not operational costs). The deadline for spring 2016 grant applications is January 10, 2016.
