Advanced Router Settings
Midco Wi-Fi can do some pretty nerdy stuff – and we’re 100% here for it. By operating in Router Only mode, you can adjust network, DNS and IP settings.
Accessing Router Settings
From the Home screen, select the App settings tab on the navigation bar. Under App settings, select the icon labeled Advanced. From here you can adjust reservations and port forwarding, networking mode, LAN IP subnet, DNS and UPnP.
Networking Mode
By default, Midco Wi-Fi pods are shipped with the Network mode set to Auto. When the Gateway pod is plugged in, the IP address assigned to it determines the actual operating mode:
- (Auto) Bridge: A private IP is assigned.
- (Auto) Router: A public IP is assigned when operating in bridge mode.
Midco Wi-Fi does not handle router functions such as NAT, DHCP and Firewall. You can also force Midco Wi-Fi to operate in Router Only mode. This can potentially create a double NAT.
Custom DNS
You can set up custom DNS settings using the Midco Wi-Fi app (as long as your network is operating in Router mode) following the instructions below.
From Advanced settings, select the DNS tab and move the toggle to activate Custom DNS.
Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)
When Midco Wi-Fi is operating in Router mode, Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) can be toggled on or off, allowing game consoles and media centers to connect to other devices and services on the internet.
LAN IP Subnet
You can specify what IP subnet is used for your Midco Wi-Fi network.
- Tap LAN IP Subnet and choose the range you wish to use:
- 10.0.0.x
- 172.16.0.x
- 192.168.1.x
- Enter the specific range you wish to use. All private IP ranges are available to use.
- 10.0.0.x – 10.255.255.x
- 172.16.0.x – 172.31.255.x
- 192.168.0.x – 192.168.255.x
- Once you tap Save, the network will need to reboot to apply the changes. After the reboot IP reservations will automatically match the new range.
IP Reservations
When Midco Wi-Fi is operating in Router Mode, IP addresses can be reserved. Once a device has an IP reservation, port forwarding rules can then be applied to it.
- Tap New IP Reservation and choose the device where you want to apply the IP reservation.
- You can use the Add Manually option to set an IP reservation to a device that has not connected to the network yet.
- Once a device is chosen from the list, type in the IP address you wish to reserve.
- In the case of manually reserving an IP, you have to type in a nickname, the IP address and the device’s MAC address.
- Tap Save to finish or continue to Add a Port Assignment for that device.
Port Forwarding
- Once a device has an IP reservation (above), you can continue to Add a Port Assignment for that device.
- Enter the Assignment Name for the port forwarding rules you are setting up.
- Type in the External Port, Internal Port and the Protocol.
- Tap Save and continue to open other ports under this reservation.
