Network Updates
Building the Network of the Future
Midco team members have been working in your neighborhood lately, and we’d like to fill you in on what we’re up to. We’re making ongoing network and technology investments – to power connected lives and neighborhoods.

Make the Most of Your Bandwidth
Our recent work near your home is meant to support your most productive, entertained and connected life today – and into the future. Did you know there are some steps you can take to ensure the fastest internet speeds and performance?

Use your Ethernet connection for faster speeds. Hardwired devices don’t compete for Wi-Fi bandwidth – and, they experience less overall latency, when gaming or file sharing.

Turn off devices you’re not using – so they’re not gobbling up bandwidth from other devices.

Reset your modem and router once a month. Like any computer, this equipment must reboot occasionally to run optimally.

Schedule backups, updates and large file downloads at off-peak times, like overnight.

Run a virus scan once a week. Also, run a malware scan to see if a compromised device is sending data to the cloud.
Recognize and Know Your Bandwidth Vampires

Online Gaming
Online games demand a high-speed connection – and when they compete for wireless bandwidth, players can experience unwanted lag. For the best online gaming experience, use an Ethernet connection – or consider upgrading to Midco Internet 500 or Midco Gig Internet.

File Sharing & Cloud Applications
File sharing and offsite storage solutions will try to use all available bandwidth to download or upload their data. If you experience slow internet speeds, check whether your devices have automatic updates enabled or peer-to-peer file sharing programs open in the background.

Streaming Services
Watching a movie on Netflix or Hulu shouldn’t make a big impact on your household’s connectivity, but when several devices are streaming simultaneously, a once-robust connection can experience significant slowdown. If this is an ongoing issue, consider upgrading to Midco Internet 500 or Midco Gig Internet.

Not Sure What’s Causing the Slowdown?
The Midco Wi-Fi app, which works with Midco FreestyleSM Internet, can show you exactly which devices are connected to the internet – and how much bandwidth they’re using. Use the app to pause, disconnect or block unwanted devices.
Need More Help?
The recent upgrades aim to support your optimal internet experience, but if you’re having issues, we’d like to help.
