Prairie Rose Elementary Announces Midcontinent as the Lead Sponsor for The Leader in Me Program

Dickinson, ND: Since opening in August 2013, Prairie Rose Elementary has placed a strong emphasis on cultivating leadership traits among kindergarten through fifth grade students. Now, Midcontinent Communications® has agreed to sponsor The Leader in Me program at the school with a $10,000 donation that will be presented during a full school assembly on Thursday, March 26.

“We have seen such enthusiasm and so many positive results for The Leader in Me from our students, teachers and parents. It’s critical that we continue to do great work by instilling positive cognitive and behavior traits in our children,” said Sherry Libis, Principal at Prairie Rose Elementary.

The Leader in Me program is an educational extension of the book “Seven Habits of Highly Successful People” by Steven Covey. Students and those around them benefit from applying the seven habits to their own lives.

“From my visit at Prairie Rose Elementary, I was quite impressed with how the students and teachers interacted with me and one another,” said Tom Simmons, SVP of Public Policy at Midcontinent®. “I experienced first-hand how The Leader in Me is already having a positive impact on the education and leadership skills of these children, and that’s why Midcontinent is so pleased to support it.”

Dickinson Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Doug Sullivan also recognizes the energy and support for The Leader in Me at Prairie Rose Elementary.

“You can really see the passion when you’re in the school. Teachers have painted the school hallways and common areas with slogans to serve as reminders of the seven habits. Teachers have also attended workshops and training sessions on their own time,” said Sullivan.

Teachers and parents established the vision, mission and motto for the school, and developed a list of belief statements to keep The Leader in Me program intact. In addition to the Midcontinent donation, Prairie Rose Elementary is seeking grants to cover the full cost of the program.

Nearly 400 kindergarten through fifth grade students are enrolled at Prairie Rose Elementary.
