- Date: 6/27/16
June 27, 2016 – Grand Forks, ND: MidcoSN® has named Alex Heinert the new on-air talent covering University of North Dakota athletics. Heinert has nine years of sports broadcasting and journalism experience – including play-by-play/color commentator, reporter, producer and coaches’ show host at MidcoSN, and on other TV and radio stations.
In his new role, Heinert will announce UND football, men’s and women’s hockey, volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball games broadcast live on MidcoSN. He will also host and produce the MidcoSN coaches’ shows North Dakota Hockey with Brad Berry and UND Sports Extra. Heinert begins his new role in Grand Forks in late July.
Heinert joined MidcoSN in 2012 as on-air talent and producer for live sports and original programs. In the 2015-2016 basketball season, he served as interim MidcoSN play-by-play announcer for UND basketball.
“Alex Heinert has proven he has the right combination of experience and energy to succeed in his new role at MidcoSN. Our partnership with UND athletics is a valuable one, and I’m confident Alex can further elevate the quality of our UND broadcasts and coverage,” says Mark Powell, VP of Business Development for Midco Business and leader of MidcoSN.
“Alex is going to be a great fit, and he transitioned seamlessly into our basketball broadcast booth last January,” says Brian Faison, Athletic Director at UND. “I know our fans are going to appreciate his abilities in building upon the great play-by-play foundation we have enjoyed for our broadcasts on MidcoSN.”
For four years, Heinert has also enhanced the in-arena experience as public address announcer for Sioux Falls Stampede hockey (USHL), Sioux Falls Canaries baseball and Sioux Falls Skyforce basketball. During his career, he has covered Division I and Division II athletics, as well as high school sports.
MidcoSN will resume live coverage of UND athletics and airing of coaches’ shows in the fall.
