April 21, 2014 - Sioux Falls, SD: Midcontinent Communications recently promoted Scott Smidt to Vice President of Business Engineering and Operations.
Scott joined Midcontinent in 1980 and has been actively involved in a variety of capacities throughout the company and communications industry. His primary focus throughout his career has centered on management of technical innovation within the company’s television broadcasting, radio broadcasting and fiber optic network holdings.
Scott served as Assistant Chief Engineer for KELO-TV (at that time a Midcontinent company), until 1996. When Midcontinent sold KELO-TV in 1996, Scott became Director of Engineering with the company’s radio operations and served in that role until the sale in 2006. Scott then became involved in Business Solutions Engineering with Midcontinent and was named Director of Business Solutions Engineering in 2010. Since that time he has led his team in developing high-capacity networks for Midcontinent’s Business Solutions customers, responsible for creating and developing an Ethernet MPLS business network and extending its reach through agreements with local, regional and national carrier partners.
In his new role as Vice President of Business Engineering and Operations, Scott will aim to further enhance the company’s reach to provide engineering and customer excellence to the businesses served by Midcontinent Communications. Scott will guide an expansion of Midcontinent’s fiber optic connectivity beyond national interests to a global scale, enhancing the digital capacity Midcontinent can offer to enterprise and wholesale businesses.
“Scott’s promotion is well-deserved,” said company President and CEO, Pat McAdaragh. “He has been an integral part of the advancement of our technical capabilities. He will help lead us to take the capacity of our network to the next-level of services that our customers demand.”
Scott has an Associate of Science degree in Broadcast Communications Electronics from Western Iowa Technical Community College. He and his wife, Carol, are both from the Sioux Falls area and have three sons and two granddaughters.
